The electric revolution has hit stand up scooters, and leading the charge are the Dualtron range from Korean company, MiniMotors.

The Dualtron range embodies the future of electric scooters. When it launched in 2015, Dualtron was the first electric scooter with dual motor drive. Since then, Minimotors have released a number of models in the Dualtron range. What defines these scooters are their all-terrain capability, long range, high speed, sturdiness and durability, and selectable Single/Dual motor operation modes.

All models in the Dualtron range come standard with LCD Display/Throttle, adjustable rubber cartridge suspension, dual brushless DC electric motors, dual disc brakes and electronic anti-lock braking systems.

These scooters are certainly not kids toys!

Dualtron II-EX

Max speed: 63km/h

Max range: 80km

Weight: 28kg

Battery: 1202 watt hours

The Dualtron II range which includes the EX, EX+, Limited and the MX, are the same model with slight variations. The EX+ has a higher capacity battery, and the Limited has a longer deck and a larger battery (great for taller people as there's a little more room for bigger feet on the deck).

This range of scooters are speedy, powerful, and endless fun! While they don't quite weigh as much as some of the other Dualtron's out there, at 28kg, these scooters feel sturdy and stable while zipping around which instils confidence in the rider. Like many of the other Dualtrons, the II series are great for off-road adventures. These things handle incredibly well.

Dualtron Ultra

Max speed: 80km/h

Max range: 110km

Weight: 37kg

Battery: 2071 watt hours

One of the most popular models is the Dualtron Ultra. With a range of 110km and max speed of 80km/h, this scooter packs a punch. The Ultra is comfortable off-road and on, and like all other Dualtron models, is fully programmable to switch between eco-mode, single and dual motor use.

Powered by two 2700W motors (again, you can select to only use one in the programmable options), this is a performance scooter! It's well built, weighing 37kg, and can carry up to 150kg. The high performance means the terrain or incline do not seem to affect the Ultra's speed or acceleration.

The LCD dashboard allows you to choose which motors to engage, what kind of brake to use, cruise control, and check the battery status and charge rate. The LED headlights, taillights and brakelights can also be controlled via this dashboard.

Dualtron X

Max speed: 88km/h

Max range: 144km

Weight: 68kg

Battery: 2940 watt hours

The latest Dualtron offering is the Dualtron X. The fastest scooter yet, with a top speed of almost 90km/h, and weighing in at almost 70kg, this thing is a beast!

It is the most powerful, the fastest, and the most advanced electric scooter to be released thus far. Boasting 6720W motors, newly designed jet air cooling systems, a redesigned dashboard, and fingerprint recognition key system, this scooter is top of the line.

The wheels on the X are huge- 5" wide, 13" diameter. These help to stabilise the scooter, and keep it upright and straight, but they may take some getting used to as the give the ride a different, albeit more stable experience.

Dualtron Thunder

Max speed: 80km/h

Max range: 119km

Weight: 43kg

Battery: 2260 watt hours

The Thunder, as the name suggests, is a highly powerful and capable scooter. It holds 5400W of power from two hub motors, and can reach a top speed of almost 80km/h and the manufacturer claims a range of 100+km.

Hydraulic brakes, ABS, a dual piston caliper system all work together to give this scooter a comfortable, and stable feel. The suspension on the Thunder is also an innovation. The 45 steps control suspension system consists of 3 steps motor axis distance control, 3 steps arm angle control, and 5 types of the rubber. This gives you 45 options of adjustment of the suspension strength. Any and all terrain is now no issue for the Thunder. Additionally, there is improved water protection compared to the Ultra. Cables are completely shielded from exterior hazards, with additional pieces of rubber added to seal the cable entrances to the main body, as well as every bolt in the scooter coming with thread sealant. The tyres supplied are 11"ultra-wide tubeless, which encourage off-road use.

Another addition to this model is a remote control that allows you to choose the colour of the LED lighting on the bar, as well as the brightness.

Dualtron Spider

Max speed: 60km/h

Max range: 60km

Weight: 19kg

Battery: 1050 watt hours

The Dualtron Spider hits the sweet spot between the fun of a powerful scooter and the convenience of a light-weight model. Weighing in just under 20kg, this scooter still packs a punch.

Two 800W motors with a combined output of 3600W can get the Spider up to 60km/h. The Spider is lightweight, agile, and very torquey. The speed/power mode can be adjusted to suit the rider's ability/confidence, and the max range is up to 60km. This is the scooter that can do a bit of everything, and still be folded up and carried onto a train or into the office.

Being much more lightweight than the other Dualtron models means the Spider is better handled, more maneuverable and has better acceleration. It weighs about half that of the Thunder and the Ultra!

The wheels on the Spider are thinner and slightly smaller than the Thunder counterpart, which is due to it's suitability more for road use than off-road as the Thunder likes.
